A woman allegedly stabbed a 3-year-old boy to death outside an Ohio grocery store in a random attack, according to police. The boy, Julian, and his mother, Margot Wood, were attacked around 3 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted, about 15 miles outside of Cleveland.
Julian suffered stab wounds to the back and cheek, while Wood, 38, survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, was taken into custody. The victims and Ellis were not acquainted, said North Olmsted police Det. Sgt. Matt Beck, describing it as a “random act of violence.”
Ellis obtained a kitchen knife from a nearby store, followed Wood and her son to the parking lot, and then allegedly attacked them near their car as Julian sat in a shopping cart.
North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed sympathy for the family’s loss, stating, “As a mother, I cannot even begin to fathom this sense of loss that this family is going through.” Ellis was charged with aggravated murder, with Beck mentioning that additional charges will follow.
