Comments Off on Outrage sparked as 63-year-old priest marries 12-year-old girl in Ghana
A 63-year-old priest in Ghana has caused outrage by marrying a 12-year-old girl who was chosen to be his wife at the age of six.
The priest, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, married the girl in a traditional ceremony in Nungua, Krowor. The event, shared on social media, drew criticism from Ghanaians, with concerns raised about child marriage laws being violated.
Local community leaders defended the marriage as a tradition, dismissing external criticism as ignorance. The Ghanaian government has not yet responded to the controversy despite the legal minimum age for marriage in Ghana being 18.
