Acieona McEwan, the mother of Traveon Jr. who tragically died after choking on a baby wipe, made a shocking statement in court by defending her son’s father, Traveon Hughes Sr., who was found guilty of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and child endangerment. Despite the jury’s decision, McEwan argued that medical professionals were responsible for her son’s death and insisted on Hughes’ innocence.

The heartbreaking case unfolded in June 2022, when the 13-week-old baby choked to death while Hughes was at home with him. Hughes claimed that the baby accidentally choked on a wipe while he briefly left the room to tend to injuries from a previous shooting. Despite maintaining his innocence, Hughes was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

McEwan’s defense of Hughes drew criticism from her own family members, who expressed their desire for justice for Traveon Jr. and condemned her support for the convicted killer. The emotional courtroom proceedings highlighted the complexities and sorrow surrounding the tragic loss of a young life.
