The Republican-led Kentucky Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill on Tuesday to grant the right to collect child support for unborn children. The bipartisan-supported measure, known as Senate Bill 110, would enable parents to seek child support to cover pregnancy expenses up to a year after giving birth.
The bill passed the Senate with a 36-2 vote and will now move to the House for further consideration. Republican state Sen. Whitney Westerfield, a strong opponent of abortion and the bill’s sponsor, emphasized the financial responsibilities associated with pregnancy and the need for support from both parents.
The legislation imposes a strict time limit for seeking retroactive child support for pregnancy expenses.
