In an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Vance proposed a $5,000 child tax credit to show support for families. Currently, the child tax credit is up to $2,000 per child.
During the pandemic, Congress raised the credit to $3,000 to $3,600, but Republicans ended this in 2021. There is bipartisan support in the House for expanding the credit, but the Senate has not made progress due to a lack of votes.
Vance missed a Senate vote on the issue and called it a “show vote.” This could impact the upcoming election, as Democrats aim to highlight the child tax credit as a key issue.
