An Ohio grandmother, Mia Desiree Harris, admitted this week that she shot her sleeping 6-month-old granddaughter in the face on purpose, and she didn’t feel sorry about it.
Harris, who is 43 years old, got really angry with her granddaughter, Myra. She used a 9-millimeter gun to shoot at the baby’s bedroom door. Then, she broke the door and shot the baby in the eye. This happened on Dec. 9, 2023.
During this violent incident, Harris also punched one person in the face and tried to shoot another person in the head, but missed. The Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said that the family was arguing when Harris got the gun.
When deputies asked why she shot the baby, Harris said that Myra was not her grandbaby and that she wasn’t sorry for what she did. Harris also had a lot of anger towards her family because she thought they were trying to take her money and leave.
Harris pleaded guilty to shooting the baby but other charges related to the other assaults were dropped. Myra survived the shooting and is recovering well.
The police came to the house after Myra’s mother called 911. The baby was in critical condition and had to have two surgeries. Harris ran away but was caught soon after.
Sheriff Jones called this act disgusting and said it was one of the worst things he had seen. Harris is in jail and could be in prison for 15 years.
