On March 29, 2024, Georgia passed SB 454, changing child support laws. These changes will impact how child support is calculated and address custody trends like joint custody. The changes will affect families in Georgia who pay or receive child support. The key changes include:

– Increasing basic child support amounts for most income levels

– Raising the income threshold for maximum child support

– Adding mandatory adjustments for parenting time and low income

– Phasing in new rules over time, with some changes taking effect in July 2024 and others in July 2026

The new law will increase child support amounts and make adjustments for parenting time and low income mandatory. It will also provide a set-off for VA disability benefits. The changes will be phased in, with the basic child support table changing in July 2024 and other adjustments in July 2026. It’s important to be aware of these changes if you are involved in a child support dispute.
