The 18-year-old Florida student who brutally attacked a school employee last year has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Brendan Depa pleaded guilty to severely beating a school worker at Matanzas High School in February 2023. The attack, caught on video, shows Depa knocking the employee unconscious before kicking and punching her repeatedly. The victim, Joan Naydich, suffered serious injuries and continues to deal with the emotional trauma.
A judge said Depa showed no remorse for the attack and sentenced him to five years in prison followed by 15 years of probation. Depa’s mother claimed he has mental health issues, including autism, and that taking away his Nintendo Switch triggered the violent outburst.
