Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a new law that puts limits on children’s social media access. Here’s a breakdown of what the law includes:

– Children under the age of 14 are banned from having their own social media accounts.

– Kids who are 14 and 15 years old can have accounts only with parental consent.

– The law also imposes restrictions on pornographic websites.

The bill, called HB 3, mandates age verification for anyone visiting sexually explicit websites. It will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Florida joins a growing list of states, including Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Ohio, and Utah, that have passed similar laws to regulate social media access for young people. Legal challenges have been raised in other states over concerns about the laws’ impact on teens’ First Amendment rights.

Governor DeSantis had vetoed an earlier version of the law, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in decisions regarding children’s social media usage.
