A 12-year-old boy from Georgia is recovering from serious burns after three of his friends poured boiling water on him during a sleepover. The friends, aged 12 to 15, said it was meant to be a prank, but they now face serious charges.
The boy suffered second-degree burns on much of his face. His mother, Tiffany West, chose not to reveal his name but wanted to share their story. She described her feelings as a mix of anger and shock when she found out what happened. Tiffany said her son was sleeping in a neighbor’s apartment after playing video games when one of the other boys threw the hot water on him.
He was taken to a burn center in Augusta, where he had surgery and is now recovering at home. His healing process is expected to take 12 to 14 days.
Tiffany’s sister-in-law, Nachelle, expressed how shocking it is that his friends could do something so harmful to someone they trusted. The family is seeking justice as they face challenges with recovery and medical bills. Tiffany and her husband have both had to take time off work to care for their son, and he may need counseling to help rebuild his trust in others.
The three boys who were involved have been released to their families and are waiting for a hearing, which is scheduled for about a month from now.
