Man, we have to do something about our children – this is not ok. An assistant principal in Texas lost sight in one eye after a student threw a hanger at her in a fit of anger, according to WFAA.
Candra Rogers, who works at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana, was dealing with a situation involving a student who had assaulted another student in the classroom on August 15 when the incident occurred.
The student first threw chairs at Rogers and then tossed a hanger at her, hitting her in the eye. Rogers described the impact: “The hanger hit me in my right eye and knocked it out of the socket. I grabbed my face as blood poured out and stumbled out of the classroom.”
Rogers was immediately flown to a hospital for treatment. Doctors informed her that she may be permanently blind in one eye and might require reconstructive surgery on her eyelid. If her blindness is permanent, she may need to have her eye removed. Despite this, Rogers remains hopeful for a miracle to restore her sight.
Following the incident, the student was taken into custody. The case was referred to the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office and the Juvenile Probation Department. School officials confirmed that the student has been confined to a specific location and is not allowed on campus.
During a news conference on August 27, Rogers emphasized the importance of providing teachers with a safe environment in the classroom. She stated, “We should never have to fear being in a classroom with an aggressive student. Everyone’s safety is crucial. While aggressive students require support, it should not come at the expense of the safety of other students and staff.”
