Carrollton police have arrested Carlton Tambaoga, 25, a suspected serial rapist who is HIV positive. Police are concerned that there may be more victims in the DFW Metroplex, Houston, and Atlanta who have not yet come forward.

The investigation began when police met with a sexual assault victim receiving treatment at a Carrollton hospital on Feb. 11. Tambaoga was arrested for the alleged crime, and it was discovered that he has HIV. Subsequent investigations have identified at least five more sexual assault victims.

Amy Jones, CEO of the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center, praised the collaboration between law enforcement and highlighted the importance of reporting sexual assaults. She emphasized the stigma and shame associated with coming forward as barriers to seeking help.

Detectives are reaching out to additional victims as part of the investigation, but acknowledge the challenges victims face in coming forward. Jones encourages survivors to get tested for STIs even if they choose not to file a police report.

Tambaoga is currently held in the Denton County Jail on two counts of sexual assault, with a bond set at $600,000. Carrollton police urge any sexual assault victims to seek medical attention and contact their local police department.

Resources for sexual assault victims are available through various crisis centers and hotlines for support and assistance.
