More than 2,000 cases of chicken broth sold at Walmart have been recalled because of potential packaging problems.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that 2,023 cases of Great Value Chicken Broth, sold in 48-ounce containers, are affected. Each case has six containers, totaling 12,138 cartons of broth that could be spoiled.
The recall started on December 11, 2024, due to concerns that the packaging might not keep the broth safe, which could lead to spoilage.
The recalled broth was sold in Walmart stores in Alabama and Arkansas, and a Walmart representative said on January 13 that over 242 stores across the U.S. sold this product. Besides Alabama and Arkansas, it was also available in stores in Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Walmart advises customers to throw away the broth and ask for a refund.
Walmart stated, “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. Once we learned about the issue, we acted quickly to remove the affected products from the stores.” They are also working with the supplier to investigate the problem.
This recall follows another incident where 1,350 pounds of Blue Ridge Beef’s 2-pound log Kitten Mix was recalled due to salmonella contamination. A customer reported an animal illness, leading to testing that confirmed salmonella in the product.
Additionally, last month, another product sold at Walmart in 20 states, Braga Fresh’s ready-to-eat 12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets, was recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious illness. This was discovered during routine testing by Texas Health & Human Services.
