NBA star Jimmy Butler is raising concerns about his ex-girlfriend Kaitlin Nowak’s spending in their ongoing child support battle, according to exclusive documents obtained by DailyMail.com.

Butler pays Nowak $55,000 each month for their three children: Rylee, Brayan, and Kian. However, he questions why she is also charging him an extra $10,000 a month for a nanny, which he believes she doesn’t need. In a court filing, Butler asks Nowak to explain how she spends the money he gives her.

His lawyers pointed out that Nowak has not tried to find a job and emphasized that since they were never married, she shouldn’t live like she is married to an NBA player.

Butler and Nowak started dating in 2019 but kept their relationship mostly private. They have three children together: Rylee, who is five, Brayan, who is two, and Kian, who is one. Butler took time off from his team, the Miami Heat, to be present for Rylee’s birth.

Butler’s second son, Kian, was born in 2023, and the news was revealed in court documents when Nowak filed a petition for paternity and child support shortly after his birth. Around the same time, Butler denied rumors of dating singer Shakira, saying they were just friends.

In December 2023, Butler and Nowak reached a temporary agreement that included shared custody and Butler paying for a nanny. However, he later challenged the need for a nanny, especially since Rylee will start school soon and Brayan will attend preschool, which Butler argues makes the nanny unnecessary.

Butler’s filing states that Nowak is unemployed and refuses to look for work, adding that with his equal time with the children, there’s no real need for a nanny. The lawyers have attempted mediation but claim Nowak still insists on having the nanny paid for in addition to the significant child support she already receives.

Butler, who has a $184 million contract and is earning $49 million this year, is considering asking for a review of Nowak’s finances to understand her spending. His motion suggests that if she claims she cannot afford a nanny despite the child support, he has the right to know how she uses the funds.

Butler has been with the Miami Heat since 2019 and has led the team to two NBA finals. However, he recently expressed dissatisfaction with the team, which could lead to a trade as the February 6 deadline approaches. This prompted the Heat to suspend him for seven games for his comments about the organization.

In a statement, the team indicated they would listen to trade offers for Butler, saying, “Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team.”
