At Tesla’s exciting ‘We, Robot’ event, CEO Elon Musk unveiled some cool new products: a Robovan and a group of humanoid robots called Optimus. In a fun surprise, several Optimus robots came on stage, showing how Tesla wants to use robots in everyday life.

Musk shared that Optimus can do many different tasks, like carrying packages, walking dogs, babysitting, and even serving drinks. He mentioned that the price for these robots could fall between $20,000 and $30,000 in the future. “The Optimus will walk amongst you,” Musk joked, highlighting how versatile the robot is and claiming it could “do anything.” A video showed an Optimus robot picking up a package from a porch, hinting at the household chores it might help with. However, during the event, the robots mostly did simple things like waving, holding cups, and handing out small gift bags. One even played rock-paper-scissors with the audience, while others danced in a gazebo.

Musk shared big hopes for Optimus, calling it “the biggest product ever of any kind.” He predicted that Tesla would eventually make millions of these robots, suggesting they could greatly boost the economy and help create a future without poverty. The Optimus project has come a long way since it first appeared in 2021 as a performer in a robot suit. In 2022, Tesla showed off a basic prototype, marking the start of serious development. Earlier this year, Musk said that by the end of 2023, Optimus would be able to do practical tasks, with plans for them to be available for sale in late 2024.

Tesla’s vision for Optimus reflects their ambitious ideas about how AI and robots will shape our future. Musk believes that robots like Optimus could lead to major changes in society and boost economic growth. However, it remains to be seen how quickly Tesla can turn these promises into reality.
