The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) arrested a 17-year-old boy who was found hiding under a 12-year-old girl’s bed.
The police were alerted by the girl’s mother, who suspected that her daughter might have had inappropriate contact with an adult male. The boy had planned to sneak into the girl’s room that afternoon. While the mother and daughter went to the police station, officers went to their home.
The boy, named Christopher Grant, was found hiding under the bed and was taken into custody. He was also found with a handgun, which had its serial number removed.
After the investigation, Grant was taken to Bulloch County Jail and charged with several offenses, including aggravated child molestation, sodomy, having a gun with an altered serial number, possessing a handgun as a minor, and criminal trespass.
The SPD emphasized the importance of parents being involved in their children’s lives, especially regarding their social interactions and online activities. The mother in this case noticed something suspicious and reported it right away.
“Great job to her,” said Captain Jared Akins of the Statesboro Police. “She has a busy schedule but still makes time to be involved in her child’s life. It’s crucial for parents to stay engaged, especially with all the challenges kids face today.”
